About Dr. Sharma

Dr. Sharma has been the principal investigator in dozens of pivotal clinical trials that have led to FDA approval of new therapies to fight retina or vitreous diseases.

He has received the honor of Best Doctor and Castle Connolly Top Doctor. He has contributed his time and expertise as a volunteer physician at the Bonita Springs Lions Club Clinic.
In 2013, Dr. Sharma was awarded the James W. Clower, Jr. MD Community Service Award, presented by the Florida Society of Ophthalmology Foundation. In 2014, he was honored by the Lee County Medical Society with the Health Education Award.

He has authored numerous articles and abstracts that have been presented at regional, national, and international conventions and has been published in respected medical journals such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology, the Annals of Ophthalmology, and the Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science Journal.

Dr. Sharma is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is currently a member of the multiple organizations including the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Diabetes Association, the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, the Lee County Medical Society, the Collier County Medical Society, the Charlotte County Medical Society, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

I had an emergency with possible detached retina. I was on vacation here and called the Southwest Florida Retina Center in Ft. Myers. The staff was very accommodating, courteous, and helpful from start to finish. They had me come in an hour and a half after I called. Even though I was a last-minute appointment, I was prepped, examined and completed in less than two hours. Dr. Sharma was pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable. I have full confidence in him and would definitely return.

I thought I needed new glasses due to an onset of blurry vision. Went for eye exam and my opthamalogist told me something more serious was going on.. She referred me to Dr Sharma. I was able to get an appointment to see him very quickly. After a thorough exam by his staff, Dr Sharma informed me I had a macular hole and needed surgery sooner rather than later. The surgical center staff was excellent and Dr Sharma has been wonderful throughout this frightening experience.

I have been treated by Dr. Sharma since Dr. Wing retired and I am very pleased with his professionalism and caring. My retina problem is ongoing but I am always able to get an emergency appointment if I should need it. The staff is also very caring and professional. I have total confidence in Dr. Sharma and his staff.My only issue is my insurance - Dr. Sharma comes to Port Charlotte on Tuesday but my insurance (Aetna) doesn't recognize that office so I have to commute to Fort Myers.
